Orthodontic Fact #6: The first braces were of a piece of flat metal in 1720. This was connected to the patient’s teeth by using several pieces of thread.

Braces Have Come a Long Way

If you're thinking about an orthodontic treatment, you'll be happy to know that braces have really made many advances over the years. Look back to the first set of braces that were worn in 1720. At that time, the patient wore a flat piece of metal connected to the teeth by a string. Braces of today still involve metal brackets and wires. However, there are many other options as well, providing patients with versatile options that can suit their needs and preferences. Braces are not a one-size-fits-all approach. The whole idea is to create a treatment plan that works best for you.

Consider Different Types of Braces

In the past, if you had to have braces, you had one option. You would expect metal wires and brackets for two to four years. Today, you can choose from brackets that are made from plastic or ceramics. You can also opt for colored brackets, wires, and bands to add a little excitement to your life. Clear brackets and wires are a popular alternative, allowing you the opportunity to receive orthodontic treatment without it seeming obvious. Clear aligners are prescribed through the use of 3D imaging and involve wearing removable aligners that are replaced every two weeks to gradually align your teeth. If you need an orthodontic treatment, the door is wide open for treatment alternatives and many are comparable in price. Choose the option that you feel most comfortable with and get on the road to healthy, straight teeth that will give you the smile you always wanted.
