Word of Wisdom No. 2: Chuck Your Toothbrush
Changing your toothbrush once in a while is part of your overall oral health routine. Using the same toothbrush for too long can cause you to bring old bacteria back to your mouth again. Your old toothbrush might not also be fit to clean your teeth thoroughly anymore since the bristles will probably wear in time. So when is the right time for you to replace your toothbrush? Experts advise to replace the head of your electric toothbrush (or buy a new one) once every two to three months. Although this timeline is calculated based on facts and other statistics, there are still factors which you need to consider than just following this timeline strictly.
Replacing your toothbrush every two to three months is good, but there are some exceptions to this rule. You need to examine your toothbrush and look at its bristles closely, in order to determine if they can still clean your teeth properly. If the bristles seem out of place and are already weak, then it’s time to change your toothbrush even if it hasn’t reached the two-month period yet. Delaying the replacement can compromise the cleanliness of your teeth leading to plaques. In return, plaques build up immediately and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to your dentist for tooth extraction.
Therefore, following the timeline and being vigilant and observant can help you save your extra time, money and effort in order to maintain a good oral health. Plus, you’ll be able to save your precious teeth too!
