What are Temporary Anchorage Devices?

TADs may be used in a variety of cases in order to help fix a variety of orthodontic problems. They help to achieve comfort, as well as quicker teeth movement. TADs may be used alongside braces as an alternative headgear. Due to the complexity of replacement and expense, bone anchorage treatment method was not used regularly for teeth treatment. However, technological advancements have led to the discovery of newer anchorage devices that are even more safer and efficient than the old devices. The jaw and gum tissue of the patient is administered with a strong anesthetic on the area where the TAD treatment is going to be placed. When the area is numb, the doctor will place the TAD on the gum tissue. The process of placing the TAD is usually a quick process and it does not involve any pain for the client. When the TAD is being placed, the patient may feel a little pressure but he or she will start to feel the TAD within a day. When your treatment is completed and you have achieved your desired results, then TAD is removed from the teeth. The process of removing TAD will take only a few minutes and it does not come with any pain. In case you have any discomfort in the TAD removal process, Ibuprofen or Tylenol is the recommended drug for reducing the pain. When using TAD treatment to correct the shape of your teeth or bite, it is highly recommended to always keep it clean. A TAD is usually cleaned the same way braces are cleaned. You are supposed to brush your teeth at least three times in a day in order to keep your TAD clean. It also comes with an antimicrobial mouthwash that the patients are supposed to use two times on daily basis. The purpose of the mouthwash is to help you clean the mouth and kill any pathogens that could harm the TAD or make it smelly.
