Rosa Parks Day February 4

Martin Luther King, Jr.[/caption] Rosa Parks Day is coming up on February 4 and unlike some of the other holiday pages that you may find up on the King Orthodontics website this holiday does not result in the closure of our offices. Rosa Parks day is an observance of an event that occurred on December 1, 1955 when Rosa Parks, an African-American seamstress refused to move from her seat for a white male on a Montgomery Alabama bus. This single act spawned a large-scale protest which resulted in a number of civil rights activists including Martin Luther King Jr. converging on Montgomery to organize a boycott of the Montgomery bus system. Rosa Parks would eventually go down as one of the great heroes for overcoming racial segregation and this case in Montgomery Alabama would eventually result in the segregation law being lifted as it was an unconstitutional practice.

Our staff will be taking time to remember this amazing historical event and this amazing woman who managed to change life as we know it in the United States. Our staff is extremely multicultural and the neighborhoods that surround our offices are multicultural as well. It's important that we take some time to really appreciate all that Rosa Parks and her like-minded civil rights activists were able to do for our country and our people on this day.

What to consider during this day:

We understand that a number of local schools and community centers are organizing events, dinners and community outreach on February 4 this year. For patients that are still undergoing orthodontic treatment it's very important that they treat this holiday as they would any other day during the treatment process. Try to avoid any damage to orthodontic appliances by sticking to your dietary plan and avoiding various activities that could damage the appliance as well. Make sure to keep up with regular cleaning and care as you regularly would as deviating from your treatment plan could set your progress back and lead to you wearing your orthodontic appliance for a longer period of time.
